The Georgetown University Energy Prize challenges towns, cities, and counties to rethink their energy use, and implement creative strategies to increase efficiency.
Blacksburg is a semi-finalist in this national competition which will award $5 million dollars to the community that reduces its energy use the most over a two year period. A goal of the competition is to transform America’s energy landscape by spurring innovative new models of community-wide energy efficiency that can be replicated and scaled across the country. Blacksburg has already shown itself to be one of the leading competitors.
With Solarize Blacksburg and other community initiatives, we have learned as a community that we can make a difference in how we use energy. This current initiative encourages positive change and mutual successes that benefits individuals, the community and the environment.
Weatherize Blacksburg is a partnership between the Town of Blacksburg, local businesses in the energy conservation field, Community Housing Partners, Virginia Tech, WattzOn, and our local gas utility, ATMOS. Through the program, we are offering low cost home energy assessments that result in custom and specific recommendations on the best opportunities to lower your home energy use – saving you money and making your home more comfortable.
